SAVIORG, a California (Santa Barbara County) private foundation, was founded in 1990.
Today, we provide financial aid for single veterans on VA Disability Pension who are unable
to fully support themselves as students at Santa Barbara City College and the University of
California Santa Barbara. VA Pensioners are strictly limited, by law, to a maximum income
of $11,830.00 per year.
Disabled veterans may exclude medical expenses, college tuition, books and fees (not
housing, transportation or food expenses) from countable income. When Vets obtain financial
aid (loans, grants, gifts, etc.) pensions are decreased (one year later) by the amount of aid
declared on VA forms.
If any VA pension recipient earns income from any source, including regular employment,
the amount of income in excess of $11,830.00 per year is deducted from pension payments.
We attempt to break the inertia when it comes to disabled Vets going to college. We help pay
college expenses now even though our aid will be deducted from pensions later unless our
veterans give up pensions for full time employment.
Scholarships are funded by tax-deductible donations and certain taxable revenues from
for-profit businesses.
Donations to SAVIORG are a good idea. Please help us help the men and women who
were tragically disabled serving you in the United States military.
